Maduro evades his responsibility for the violation of human rights in Venezuela, but blames international sanctions.

Ottawa, February, 22.- Nicolás Maduro denounced before the Human Rights Council what he called a “multidimensional economic aggression” against Venezuela. According to him, the international sanctions imposed have stripped Venezuela of at least $ 30 billion, which would help address comprehensive health and people’s rights.
This complaint arises shortly after the visit of the special rapporteur on “the effect of unilateral actions on human rights”, Alena Douhan, Belarusian. This rapporteur, originally promoted by Cuba to address its problem with the United States, has been addressing this issue without linking it to the flagrant violations of human rights by the Cuban government itself and now the Venezuelan one, in order to exonerate them from their responsibilities.
Maduro, based on what was declared by the Rapporteur Douhan, maintains that the cause of the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela is the sanctions, forgetting that this crisis began several years before such sanctions were implemented.
Maduro also did not speak of the dramatic human rights situation in Venezuela, as described in the report of the Independent International Mission of the Human Rights Council, whose entry to the country was denied by his government. By Alfredo Michelena
