La Asamblea General de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) ha dispuesto a su Consejo Permanente para que exija la liberación de los 175 presos políticos y de los siete precandidatos que languidecen en las mazmorras de la dictadura antes del 30 de noviembre. También reclama la “restitución inmediata de sus derechos democráticos y el fin del hostigamiento de los medios de comunicación independientes y de miembros de la sociedad civil”.Si ello no ocurre, un grupo importante de países está dispuesto a endurecer su presión contra el caudillo Daniel Ortega, incluso hasta forzar la suspensión de Nicaragua del organismo, para lo cual haría falta convocar una Asamblea General Extraordinaria.
