UNHCR Venezuela Quarterly Report | Jan – Mar 2023

In the first quarter of the year, UNHCR spearheaded the launch of a reintegration pilot project in the northcentral of Miranda, selecting three communities in the sprawling informal settlement of Petare, to the east of Caracas, to implement a number of activities designed to support the sustainable reintgration in society of those Venezuelans who have chosen to return to the country. UNHCR is also supporting a second reintegration pilot in the western state of Tachira that is being implemented under the leadership of IOM in two border communities in the Municipality of Junin and in an urban community in the city of San Cristobal.

UNHCR also accompanied a mission by the Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator to the southwestern state of Amazonas which provided the opportunity to showcase some of its more recent projects: the Communal Center for Women in Puerto Ayacucho, 400 solar reflectors installed in the Municipality of Autana, the Centre for the Comprehensive Care for Victims of Human Trafficking and Gender-Based Violence (CAFIM) in Puerto Ayacucho, the local Agricultural Technical School (ETA) supported jointly with FAO and UNICEF as a pilot for income generating opportunities for students.
