 The United Nations estimates that 5.2 million Venezuelans have urgent needs and so the international body has developed a $795 million response plan to help them, the organization’s humanitarian chief, Martin Griffiths, announced Tuesday.The official, who on Tuesday wrapped up a three-day visit to Caracas, announced that he had reached an agreement with the Venezuelan government to publish a new response plan for 2022 and 2023 without knowing until now when that roadmap would be made public. The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, will visit Venezuela from 31 July to 2 August 2022. During his mission, Mr. Griffiths will meet with Government officials and other key stakeholders, including humanitarian partners. Mr. Griffiths aims to support ongoing efforts to address humanitarian and social needs and to strengthen basic service delivery. As of November 2020, nearly 5.5 million Venezuelans have ed the country seeking food, work, protection, and a more stable life. And about 7 million people inside Venezuela need humanitarian assistance. A recent World Vision survey of Venezuelan children in seven countries revealed that one in three of them goes to bed hungry. For those living in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Venezuela, a lack of food and basic hygiene supplies, the fear of being evicted, and the absence of education is their everyday reality. We believe that restoring hope to the most vulnerable is the key to reversing this tragic trend of poverty and heartache brought on by societal collapse and a global pandemic.
