On 30 June, Guyana’s lawyers argued with heart before the International Court of Justice  that it has jurisdiction to hear the case and pronounce on the validity of the 1899 boundary award. Currently, the ICJ is considering whether it has jurisdiction to decide the case on the merits. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro wrote a letter to the court, which was read aloud.
