In his speech on the Venezuela independence day, the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, made clear that any elections would be a pantomime by assuring that the opposition “can never exercise political power in Venezuela”; that “… they will never be political power while there is a Bolivarian National Armed Force like the one we have today, anti-imperialist, revolutionary and Bolivarian … it is good that they understand it.”
This declaration gives further support to the position of the international community that had already rejected the next parliamentary elections, once the Venezuelan regime, through the Supreme Court of Justice, that it controls, has illegally named the directive of the body that controls the electoral process (Consejo Nacional Electoral – CNE), as well as the new directives of two of the most important political parties in Venezuela.
The international community has called for greater electoral transparency, the release of hundreds of political prisoners, a balanced CNE, the participation of all parties and their leaders, and international observation.
