Santa Teresa: Why It’s Worth Tasting This Venezuelan Rum

Courtesy of Rum Santa Teresa

Santa Teresa is Venezuela’s oldest rum brand. The Hacienda Santa Teresa, where the rum is produced, dates to 1796. The hacienda began as a producer of coffee, cocoa and sugarcane. Rum production began in 1830, and has continued ever since, despite, the company points out, “war, revolutions, invasions even dictators.” It’s located in the mountainous Aragua Valley, the center of Venezuela’s sugar industry. It has been run by the Vollmer family, now in its fifth generation, since 1830. By Joseph V Micallef.
