In sum, Venezuelan companies face complicated economic conditions and in some cases it is very difficult for them to operate with profit, or – at least – without losses. In the few cases where they have been able to accumulate profits, exchange controls were used to prevent shareholders from receiving dividends and capital repatriations. Further, according to different sources (such as Consecomercio, Conindustria and Fedecamaras, private sector commercial and industrial syndicates), many companies have actually stopped operating.
